Police Report

June 1 – June 21

June 1 – Staff of a local store reported that a group of youths had shoplifted from the store on several occasions. All youths were identified, issued verbal warnings and their parents were notified.

June 2 – Police received several reports regarding altercations between multiple male youths. As a result, one male youth was arrested for Assault (x2), and another male youth was arrested for Assault (x2) and Uttering Threats (x2). Both males were released on Undertakings with a court date at Morden Provincial Court, and their parents were notified of the incidents.

A female reported that a male who was under the condition not to contact her had breached his condition and police are seeking a warrant for his arrest.

A report was received regarding a female youth who was sexually assaulted by an adult male known to her family. Police are seeking an arrest warrant for the male on the charges of Sexual Assault (x2) and Sexual Interference (x2).

A female youth reported that she was sexually assaulted by a male known to her. This file is still under investigation.

June 6 – A traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle, at which time police formed reasonable grounds to believe that the occupants (a male driver and male passenger) were in possession of illicit drugs. A search of the passenger and vehicle incident to arrest resulted in police locating 47 grams of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and a small amount of crack cocaine. Both males were charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (Methamphetamine) and Possession of a Schedule I Substance (Cocaine). The driver was released on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court and the passenger was remanded into custody to appear in Winnipeg Provincial Court.

Police were dispatched to the report of an altercation inside a residence and upon arrival spoke with both parties separately, at which time the female disclosed a historical assault by her husband and that she assaulted him prior to police arrival. She was arrested for Assault with a Weapon, and the male was arrested for Assault. Both parties were released on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court.

June 9 – Police received a request to conduct a wellbeing check on a female who was reported to have been assaulted by her husband several days earlier. Upon speaking with the female, she disclosed that her husband had assaulted her on two separate occasions. The male was arrested for Assault, Assault by Choking and Uttering Threats, and released on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court.

Police received a report regarding videos involving animal abuse posted in an online group chat by a resident of Winkler. An investigation was conducted and a 16-year-old male was arrested for Causing an Animal Unnecessary Suffering (x2) and Possessing a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and remanded into custody at Manitoba Youth Centre.

June 11 – A report was received regarding a male suspect who left a store without paying for an item of merchandise. This file is still under investigation.

June 12 – Police were dispatched to a residence regarding a male who assaulted his common-law wife and fled on foot. He returned to the scene a short time later and was arrested for Assault Causing Bodily Harm and released on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court.

June 14 – Police were advised of a vehicle weaving between lanes on 1st Street without its taillights illuminated. Upon locating the vehicle police proceeded to conduct a traffic stop at which time the driver displayed signs of impairment and complied to a demand for a breath sample which resulted in two “Warn” readings. He was issued an Immediate Roadside Prohibition which carried a 72-hour driver’s licence suspension and $400 fine.

A male reported that a scammer created an inappropriate video of him using AI in an attempt to extort him for money. Police advised the male not to send any money and to block the scammer.

Police observed two individuals travelling on an electric motorcycle, with no pedals or licence plate visible, and noted them travel through a stop sign without stopping. A traffic stop was conducted, at which time police learned the driver had a Class 5L driver’s licence and that the motorcycle was unregistered. The driver was issued tickets for: Driving an unregistered vehicle ($298), Disobeying a traffic control device, namely stop sign ($203), Permitting a passenger to ride on a motorcycle equipped for only one person ($174), and Driving without holding a valid driver’s licence of a class appropriate for the vehicle ($298).

June 17 – Staff of a local store reported that a male left the store without paying for merchandise and had shoplifted items from the store on a previous occasion. Police located the male suspect and served him a banishment notice on behalf of the store.

June 18 – Police received a report of a female youth who had been sexually assaulted. This investigation is ongoing.

During the month of June police have been conducting Manitoba Public Insurance sponsored traffic enforcement campaigns and have issued numerous tickets for offences including but not limited to speeding, distracted driving, obstructed licence plates and improper window tint.
