May 11 – Police were dispatched to an iPhone crash notification at the intersection of Highway 14 and 15th Street and upon arrival police observed two damaged vehicles. Police spoke with several witnesses who advised that the driver of an eastbound vehicle proceeded through a red light and struck a southbound vehicle. The driver of the southbound vehicle was transported to the Boundary Trails Health Centre with non-life-threatening injuries, and the driver of the eastbound vehicle was issued a ticket for: Disobeying a traffic control device, namely a red light ($203).
May 12 – Staff of a local store reported that a male left the store without paying for a small amount of merchandise. Police located the male suspect and served him a banishment notice on the store’s behalf.
Staff of a local business reported a fraud that took place after being contacted by a customer who made two large purchases over the phone by credit card and had the products shipped to Winnipeg through a third-party shipping company. The purchases were later reported as fraudulent to the credit card company, and the money was refunded to the cardholder, leaving the local business without payment and the products. This investigation is ongoing.
May 13 – Police were dispatched to the report of an assault and upon arrival spoke with the victim who advised that a male and female known to him assaulted him and fled in a vehicle. Both suspects were located and the male was arrested for Assault Causing Bodily Harm and later released on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court. The female was arrested for Breaking, Entering and Committing Assault, Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Failing to Comply with a Probation Order and Failing to Comply with a Recognizance (Peace Bond). She was remanded into custody to appear in Winnipeg Provincial Court.
May 16 – Staff of a local store reported an incident of shoplifting involving a female suspect. This file is still under investigation.
Police received a report of theft involving merchandise that was stolen from a store. This investigation is ongoing.
May 20 – Police were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of 1st Street and Norquay Drive involving an eastbound vehicle which struck a northbound vehicle. The driver of the eastbound vehicle was issued a ticket for: Proceeding before safe to do so ($174).
May 21 – Police were dispatched to the report of a male and female who were highly intoxicated at a public facility. Upon arrival police first located the male and arrested him under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act. The female was located inside, standing up but folded over at the waist with her head and arms to the ground, which is a common indicator of fentanyl use. She was responsive to police and was arrested under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act, during which time she was found to be in possession of a substance believed to be fentanyl. While attempting to charter the female, she began having a medical emergency and was administered Narcan by police while EMS were en route and then transported to the Boundary Trails Health Centre, during which time EMS also administered Narcan. She was stabilized at the hospital and a search of her possessions resulted in police locating drug paraphernalia, unknown substances and a collapsible baton (she was on a condition not to own, carry or possess a weapon). Once medically cleared she was charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance (x2), Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, and Failing to Comply with a Release Order, and remanded into custody to appear in Winnipeg Provincial Court.
May 23 – While on patrol at approximately 1:25 a.m., police observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed and in a manner which led police to suspect the driver may be impaired. A traffic stop was conducted, during which time the driver complied with the demand for a breath sample which resulted in a “Fail” reading. He was issued an Immediate Roadside Prohibition, which carried $700 fine, 90-day driver’s licence suspension and 30-day vehicle impoundment.
May 24 – Police were dispatched to the report of an intoxicated male and female near Mountain Avenue and 9th Street. Both individuals were located and arrested under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act, and the female was charged with Failing to Comply with an Undertaking as she was under conditions to abstain from the consumption of alcohol. The male and female were released once sober, with the female being released on an Appearance Notice.
May 25 – Police observed a vehicle travelling in a suspicious manner and conducted a traffic stop, during which time police formed reasonable grounds of suspicion that the female driver and male passenger were in possession of a controlled substance. While searching the female incident to arrest she was found to be in possession of a Schedule I substance believed to be fentanyl. With the assistance of Police Service Dog Ice of the Morden Police Service the vehicle was searched resulting in police locating drug paraphernalia. The female was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (x2), and she was released on an Appearance Notice, and the male was released without charges.
May 26 – A male reported that his vehicle was vandalized on May 24th while parked at a public facility. This file is still under investigation.
May 27 – Staff of a local store reported that a staff member’s locked electric bike was stolen from the bike rack by two males who cut the lock. This investigation is ongoing.
May 28 – A female reported that she was assaulted by a male known to her and the male was later arrested for Assault and released on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court.
