September 21 – Police received a report of a male who breached his condition not to contact a female known to him. The male could not be located, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
September 22 – Police were advised by a local business of mischief that occurred sometime during the night after a female was found sleeping in one of the business’s vehicles. After the female left and staff inspected the vehicle further, damage was located inside indicating an attempted vehicle theft. Police suspect this is the same female from the file below and this investigation is ongoing.
At approximately 2:15 p.m., staff of a local business reported that a delivery truck and trailer were stolen from the business, and tracking information was provided to police. A traffic stop was conducted in the City of Morden with the assistance of the Morden Police Service, at which time the female driver was arrested for Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Failing to Comply with an Undertaking (she was under the condition not to be in any motor vehicle without the owner’s consent) and for the Highway Traffic Act charge of Driving without a valid driver’s licence. Police also learned the female was wanted on the strength of two arrest warrants for Failing to Comply with a Release Order (x3) and Failing to Attend Court. She was transported to the Winkler Police Service and later remanded into custody to appear in Winnipeg Provincial Court.
September 28 – While monitoring school-zone traffic on Roblin Boulevard, police observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed and obtained a reading of 59 km/h in the 30 km/h zone. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver was issued a ticket for Speeding ($429).
September 29 – Police received a report of mischief regarding several youths who caused damage to the vestibule of a public building. This investigation is ongoing.
September 30 – A female reported that she received a phone call from an individual claiming to be calling from her financial institution during which time the female shared her screen with the caller, resulting in an unauthorized withdrawal from her account. Police assisted the female with contacting her bank to have her account restricted.
Police were monitoring traffic on Highway 14 near Park Street when a vehicle was observed travelling at a high rate of speed. A speed reading of 90 km/h in the 60 km/h zone was obtained, a traffic stop was conducted, and the driver was issued a ticket for Speeding ($442).
October 1 – At approximately 9:00 p.m., police were dispatched to the area of 3rd Street South regarding several complaints of teenagers who were “ding-dong ditching”. Police located a group of teenagers who matched the provided description, and they admitted to the behaviour. The group apologized and were issued verbal warnings.
October 2 – Police were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Park Street and Highway 14 involving a northbound vehicle which turned westbound onto Highway 14 and subsequently collided with a westbound vehicle. Both vehicles were damaged and towed from the scene, and one vehicle occupant was transported to the hospital with what were believed to be minor injuries. The driver of the northbound vehicle was issued a ticket for Proceeding before it is safe to do so ($174).
October 3 – A female reported that she received a phone call from an individual claiming to be a bank representative who advised that her banking profile was compromised and she would receive a phone call from the police on a secure telephone line. A short time later, the female received a phone call from the ‘spoofed’ number of 204-325-0829 (the Winkler Police Service Administrative line) and spoke with a male who falsely identified himself as a police officer. The male then contacted her via WhatsApp and advised she needed to deposit her funds into a secure bitcoin wallet, which she proceeded to do by withdrawing a substantial amount of funds from her account and depositing them into two bitcoin machines. The female’s bank later locked her account for security purposes (she had provided her bank account number and date of birth to the scammer), and her funds are not retrievable.
Police received a report of a suspected impaired driver and immediately located the male suspect in the driver’s seat of the parked vehicle, which was running, and conducted a traffic stop. Police observed open liquor in the vehicle and demanded the driver provide a breath sample, to which he complied, and two “Fail” readings were obtained. He was subsequently issued an Immediate Roadside Prohibition which carried a $700 fine, 90-day driver’s licence suspension and 30-day vehicle impoundment, and was issued a ticket for As a driver, carrying liquor in a vehicle ($237).
Staff of a local business reported that an intoxicated male was sleeping in the business with an open bottle of liquor. Police attended, arrested the male under the Protective Detention and Care of Intoxicated Persons Act and released him once sober with a ticket for Consuming liquor in a public place ($672).
October 4 – At approximately 8:00 p.m., police received a report regarding three masked males who were in the possession of weapons and travelling on foot. Police viewed video footage of the suspects from approximately 30 minutes earlier and while patrolling the area received another complaint regarding the same males who were now at another location. Police attended the second location and observed a male wearing a mask and in possession of a weapon, and he was subsequently arrested for Possessing a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose. While arresting the male, police learned he was not one of the original three suspects, and the weapon was a plastic toy. The 17-year-old advised he met the other three unknown males who advised him to join them, and he was extremely apologetic for his actions. His father was notified of the incident, and his matter is being forwarded to the Restorative Justice Committee. The original suspects were not located and this investigation is ongoing.
