June 23 – A female reported that she fell victim to a scam after receiving a text message from someone claiming to be from Manitoba Justice regarding an outstanding speeding ticket. She provided her debit card number, and the scammers were able to add her to Google Pay and make two transactions. The female’s bank is continuing the investigation.
June 24 – Police received a report regarding a leaf blower which was stolen from a truck while parked overnight on 3rd Street.
June 25 – A male reported that he had been receiving suspicious phone calls from individuals claiming to be from Canada Post and Canada Customs. The callers requested the male provide his ID, which he did not, and police advised him to ignore the calls and not provide any information.
June 26 – Police were dispatched to the report of a shoplifting in progress at a local store. Upon arrival police learned that store employees prevented the theft by chasing the suspect and separating him from the shopping cart. This investigation is ongoing.
June 30 – A female reported that a male under conditions not to be near her had breached his condition and he was later arrested for Failing to Comply with an Undertaking and released on an Appearance Notice.
A report was received regarding multiple thefts from wallets located in the locker rooms of a public facility. Upon viewing video footage police observed a male suspect, who was known to police, and subsequently located and arrested him for Theft Under $5000 (x5) and released him on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court.
July 1 – While travelling on Southview Drive police noted several stopped vehicles, one of which had its hazard lights activated. Upon assessing the vehicle police noted considerable damage to the front passenger wheel and wheel well and located a vehicle nearby on Main Street South which appeared to have been struck. While speaking with the driver she displayed signs of impairment and complied to a demand for a breath sample which resulted in two “Fail” readings. She was issued an Immediate Roadside Prohibition which carried a $700 fine, 90-day driver’s licence suspension and 30-day vehicle impoundment and was provided a ride to her mother’s residence.
A complaint was received regarding a hit and run involving a vehicle travelling on Main Street which was rear-ended by another vehicle several times before the suspect vehicle drove away. This file is still under investigation.
July 3 – A male reported that his bicycle was stolen from his yard on Gemstone Drive and replaced with a different bicycle. This investigation is ongoing.
July 5 – Police were advised of a suspicious vehicle observed parked on Barrie Bay and upon querying the licence plate number learned the vehicle was reported stolen out of Winnipeg as a result of a carjacking. Several vehicle thefts, the theft of an enclosed trailer and the theft of gasoline (all of which occurred in Winkler) were later reported and believed to be related. These files are still under investigation.
July 6 – A male reported that he was threatened by his neighbor who was subsequently arrested for Uttering Threats and released to a different address on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court. The following day the male reported that his neighbor had breached his condition to not be near his residence, and he was arrested for Failing to Comply with an Undertaking and remanded into custody to appear in Winnipeg Provincial Court.
July 7 – A male reported that his unlocked bicycle was stolen from his workplace on Manitoba Road sometime between July 1st and 3rd.
July 9 – A male reported that his bicycle was stolen from his workplace on Cargill Road. Police reviewed video footage and observed two teenage suspects, known to police, stealing the bicycle. The bicycle was returned to the owner and both suspects received verbal warnings and their parents were notified of the incident.
July 10 – Police were dispatched to the intersection of Norquay Drive and Roblin Boulevard for the report of a two-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and SUV. Upon speaking with several witnesses police learned that the northbound SUV failed to stop at the stop sign causing the motorcycle to strike the vehicle. The motorcycle driver was transported to Boundary Trails Health Centre and later to the Health Sciences Centre via STARS air ambulance and the driver of the SUV was released on a POA Appearance Notice.
A male reported that a vehicle was doing donuts in a parking lot which caused rocks to be thrown at his vehicle, damaging the grill. This file is still under investigation.
July 11 – A female reported that she fell victim to a romance scam after beginning an online relationship with a male who requested that she send him money via gift cards. She also provided the male access to her credit card account, and he then deposited funds which she withdrew and used to purchase more gift cards, after which he reversed the transaction, leaving her out the money. He also later locked her out of her credit card account and messaging app after she provided him with the two-step verification code. Police advised her to stop communication with him as they were still conversing through a different messaging app.
July 12 – A complaint was received regarding a vehicle which was doing donuts on a parking lot and had failed to stop at several stop signs. This investigation is ongoing.
