Police Report

April 27 – May 10

April 28 – A male reported that he fell victim to a scam after receiving a text message from someone claiming to be from his bank. The male proceeded to send a large amount of money to the scammer via e-transfer, and his bank is investigating further.

April 29 – At approximately 12:25 a.m., police received a report regarding a suspected impaired driver. Police located the suspect vehicle, observed it travelling in an unsafe manner and conducted a traffic stop, during which time open and closed liquor was observed inside the vehicle. A query of the male driver indicated he was required to have an ignition-interlock system while operating a vehicle, which his vehicle did not have. The male was arrested and transported to the Winkler Police Service where he provided two breath samples resulting in readings of 180 mgs% and 190 mgs% (the legal limit is 80 mgs%). He was charged with: Operating a Vehicle While Impaired and Operating a Vehicle with Over 80 mg% of Alcohol, and under the Highway Traffic Act with: As a driver, carrying liquor in a vehicle and As the holder of a restricted licence, driving a motor vehicle not equipped with an approved ignition-interlock device. He was released once sober on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court, along with an Appearance Notice for the HTA charges, a three-month driver’s licence suspension and a 60-day vehicle impoundment.

April 30 – Shortly after 8:00 p.m., police were dispatched to a suspected impaired driver who had come to a stop at a residence and exited the vehicle. Police located the female suspect, who witnesses confirmed was the driver of the vehicle, and noted the strong odour of liquor on her person. She was arrested and transported to the Winkler Police Service where she provided two breath samples resulting in readings of 250 mgs% and 270 mgs% and subsequently charged with Operating a Vehicle While Impaired and Operating a Vehicle with Over 80 mgs% of Alcohol. She was later released once sober on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court and served a three-month driver’s license suspension and 60-day vehicle impoundment.

May 1 – A complaint was received regarding an intoxicated female who was punching car windows and behaving erratically. The female was located and arrested for Mischief Over $5000, at which time she threatened an officer and was also charged with Uttering Threats. She was released once sober on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court.

May 2 – While on patrol, police observed a female pedestrian who was wanted on the strength of a warrant. The female was arrested and a search of her belongings incident to arrest resulted in police locating a small amount of fentanyl and drug paraphernalia. She was charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance (Fentanyl) and released on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court.

May 5 – Police were dispatched to the report of a break and enter to the property of a local business. The male suspect was located and arrested for Break and Enter with Intent and released on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court.

May 8 – The manager of a local store reported a theft by a female known to store staff and police, and she was served a banishment notice at the store’s request.

May 9 – While on patrol, police observed a vehicle weaving within its lane and conducted a traffic stop, during which time the female driver admitted to recently consuming alcohol. She complied with the demand for a breath sample which resulted in a “Fail” reading. She was issued an Immediate Roadside Prohibition which carried a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and $700 fine, along with a 30-day vehicle impoundment.

May 10 – Police were monitoring traffic on Main Street when two vehicles were observed racing at a high rate of speed and a traffic stop was conducted on both vehicles. The two male drivers were each issued a ticket for Racing with another vehicle ($672), a seven-day driver’s licence suspension, and seven-day vehicle impoundment, with one male also being issued an MPI Serious Offence Notice and the other (a resident of Saskatchewan) being issued a ticket for Driving without holding a valid driver’s licence ($298).

While monitoring traffic on Main Street police observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed with the front licence plate displayed on the dash of the vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver, who did not have his registration is his vehicle, was issued a ticket for Operating a vehicle with a number plate obstructed in a manner capable of preventing an accurate image ($203) and verbal warnings for imprudent driving and failing to produce vehicle registration.
