Police Report

March 23 – April 12

March 24 – A teenage male was arrested and charged with Breaching an Undertaking (x2) after attending an address which he was on conditions not to attend, and he was also arrested on the strength of a warrant. He was released on an Appearance Notice, and his father was served a Notice to Parent.

A female reported an attempted scam after receiving a call from someone claiming to be from the UK advising that her previously purchased cryptocurrency had matured and in order to receive the money she needed to pay the ‘UK tax’. Further conversation with the scammer led the female to believe the call was a scam and she did not provide any money.

March 25 – Police were dispatched to the report of a vehicle being driven by a female with a suspended driver’s licence who was on conditions not to be in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. The vehicle was located, unoccupied, at which time the female suspect was observed entering the vehicle and sitting in the front passenger seat. Based off witness statements, the female was arrested for Breaching an Undertaking and later released on an Appearance Notice.

The manager of a local business reported a fraud that occurred the previous evening involving an employee who received a phone call from an unknown individual claiming to be from Fire and Safety Inspection Manitoba stating they had been in contact with the business’s manager. The scammer advised that a package was being shipped via FedEx and in order to pay for the package the employee was advised to obtain cash from the business, deposit it into her personal account and then transfer the money to the scammer. She was also advised to withdraw personal funds to send via Bitcoin or Western Union. The female eventually contacted her manager who advised it was a scam and communication with the scammer was ceased. Both the business and employee are out money as a result of the scam.

March 27 – A male reported that he fell victim to a scam after receiving a phone call from someone claiming to be from MTS and then claiming to be from the Canada Revenue Agency. While on the phone, the male provided the scammer access to his computer and logged into his online banking, after which he felt suspicious and attended his bank where he was advised that a withdrawal was attempted but stopped. He was not out any money as a result of the attempted scam.

March 28 – Police were dispatched to the report of a male who was at a residence which he was under conditions not to attend. The male was located, arrested for Failing to Comply with an Undertaking (x2) and released on an Appearance Notice.

March 29 – A report was received regarding two occupants of a vehicle who were shooting a pellet gun at light posts on a parking lot off of Grandeur Avenue. The vehicle was later located, at which time a traffic stop was conducted and a search of the vehicle incident to arrest resulted in police locating a Glock air gun. The driver and front passenger, who were both under 18 years of age, were served a youth caution and the air gun was relinquished.

March 31 – Police were dispatched to a single vehicle accident on Main Street involving a vehicle which incurred severe front-end damage. Upon speaking with several witnesses police learned two vehicles, one of which was no longer on scene, were racing at which time one vehicle lost control, travelled onto the curb, struck and broke off a tree, then struck and broke off a light post and then struck another tree, at which time the vehicle came to a stop. The driver, who was transported to the hospital in stable condition, was issued a ticket for: Racing with another motor vehicle ($672), a seven-day driver’s licence suspension, seven-day vehicle impoundment, and MPI Serious Offence Notice. Police later received a report regarding another single vehicle accident involving a vehicle which drove into the curb on Main Street and upon arrival police learned it was the second vehicle in the initial complaint. The driver was issued a ticket for: Racing with another motor vehicle ($672), a seven-day driver’s licence suspension, seven-day vehicle impoundment, and MPI Serious Offence Notice.

April 1 – Staff of a local store reported a shoplifting incident involving a female who left the store without paying for items of merchandise.

April 4 – While on patrol, police observed a vehicle travelling without illuminated taillights and proceeded to conduct a traffic stop, at which time the strong odour of liquor emanated from the vehicle. The driver complied with the demand for a breath sample which resulted in two “Fail” readings and he was subsequently served an Immediate Roadside Prohibition, which carried a $700 fine, 90-day driver’s license suspension and 30-day vehicle impoundment and issued a ticket for: Improper equipment, namely required lamps ($174).

April 5 – A female reported that she was assaulted by her intoxicated boyfriend the previous day. The male was arrested for Assault with a Weapon and released on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court.

A complaint was received regarding a female who entered a residence on two occasions which she was under conditions not to attend. She was arrested and charged with Break and Enter to a Residence (x2) and Failing to Comply with an Undertaking (x2) and remanded into custody to appear in Winnipeg Provincial Court.

April 6 – A report was received regarding a public washroom which was broken into and vandalized.

At approximately 7:06 p.m., police were dispatched to a residential break and enter in progress and were advised while en route that the suspects had left the scene. All individuals were located, two of whom were learned to be under the age of 12 and subsequently issued verbal warnings and their parents were advised of the incident. The third individual, a 12-year-old male, was arrested and later released without charges on a written caution and his mother was advised of the incident. The fourth individual, an 18-year-old female, was arrested and charged with Being Unlawfully in a Dwelling House and was released on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court.

April 10 – Police were on patrol when a vehicle was observed towing a trailer with no licence plate and a missing taillight. A traffic stop was conducted and it was confirmed that the trailer and truck were not registered. The driver of the vehicle was issued tickets for: Towing an unregistered trailer ($298) and Driving an unregistered vehicle ($298).
