Police Report

January 19 – February 8

January 21 – A resident of Main Street reported that the passenger-side tires of her vehicle were slashed sometime during the night.

January 25 – Police were dispatched to the report of a disturbance between a male and female and learned that the male was under conditions not to have contact with the female and to abstain from the consumption of alcohol. He was arrested for Breaching a Release Order (x2) and Disobeying a Court Order and later remanded into custody to appear in Winnipeg Provincial Court.

January 27 – Staff of a local store reported that a vehicle had driven into the building earlier in the day, leaving significant damage, and left the scene. Through video footage, police obtained a licence plate number and contacted the registered owner who was issued a ticket for: As the driver of a vehicle involved in an accident, failing to give required information to a person whose property is damaged ($203).

A female reported that a male relative had taken her vehicle without her consent and had threatened her on another occasion. He was arrested for Taking a Motor Vehicle Without Consent and Uttering Threats and released on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court.

Police were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of 1st Street and Norquay Drive involving an SUV and semi-truck. Police learned the SUV was travelling westbound across the intersection and crossed into the path of the semi-truck. The driver of the SUV was issued a ticket for: Proceeding before it is safe to do so ($174).

January 30 – A male reported that his vehicle was vandalized on January 26th and damage to the vehicle consisted of the rear emblem being removed and a puncture hole in the trunk hatch.

February 1 – Staff of a local restaurant reported that he received a phone call, and the caller requested him to deposit a large amount of money into an ATM. The caller realized it was a scam and did not deposit any money.

A female reported that a male known to her breached his condition not to follow her from place to place. He was later arrested for Failing to Comply with a Court Order and released on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court.

February 4 – Police were dispatched to a two-vehicle collision and while assisting in the exchange of information learned one of the drivers was without a supervising driver as required. He was issued a ticket for: As the holder of a class 5A licence, driving without a supervising driver ($203).

A male reported a fraud involving a substantial amount of money which had been withdrawn from his account without his knowledge. The male’s bank is continuing the investigation.

February 6 – Staff of a local store reported that a male left the store without paying for merchandise. This investigation is ongoing.

February 7 – Police were travelling on Stanley Avenue when a vehicle was observed stopped at a stop sign with its hazard lights activated. Upon speaking with the driver, police learned there was another vehicle nearby with an unresponsive driver and the vehicle was still in ‘Drive’. Police were able to turn off the vehicle during which time the driver awoke, exhibiting signs of impairment, and she was arrested for Impaired Operation of a Vehicle. She was transported to the Winkler Police Service where she provided three breath samples resulting in readings of 270 mg%, 230 mg% and 220 mg% (the legal limit is 80 mg%) and was subsequently charged with Operating a Vehicle Over 80 mg%. She was later released once sober on an Appearance Notice, her driver’s licence was suspended for three months, and her vehicle was impounded for 60 days.

A complaint was received regarding a suspected impaired driver currently parked at a gas station. Police located the vehicle and upon speaking with the driver noted the odour of liquor on his breath. He complied to a demand for a breath sample which resulted in a reading of 28 mg%. His driver’s licence was suspended for 24 hours and because his driver’s licence stage was intermediate, he was issued a ticket for: As a novice driver, operating a motor vehicle while having alcohol in the blood ($113).

February 8 – Police were dispatched to a local store regarding a teenage female who was attempting to leave the store without paying for items of merchandise. She was found to have numerous unpaid items in her possession and initially provided a false name. Police issued her a banishment notice on behalf of the store and her parents were notified of the incident.
