November 7 – November 13

The following are some of the files that were opened with the Winkler Police Service during this time period.

November 7

A report was received regarding a theft of an enclosed trailer with tools inside that occurred sometime over the weekend. The trailer was stolen from the area of Gemstone Drive and Platinum Road. This file is still under investigation.

Shortly after 6:00 p.m. while on general patrol, officers observed a vehicle being operated erratically on 1st Street and then westbound on Southview Drive. Police conducted a traffic stop and while speaking with the driver observed signs of impairment. The 23 year old driver provided a sample of his breath into a roadside screening device which resulted in a “Fail” reading. The driver was issued an immediate roadside suspension which carries a $700 fine, 90 day license suspension and a 30 day vehicle impoundment. He was also issued a $237 ticket for transporting cannabis in a motor vehicle other than as authorized.

November 8

A report was received from Garden Valley School Division regarding a vehicle passing a stopped school bus with lights flashing on Greensfield Drive. The owner of the vehicle was issued a $672 ticket.

At 11:34 p.m. police received notice from the RCMP and Altona Police regarding an attempted theft of a motor vehicle near Rosenfeld. A vehicle description was provided and shortly after midnight officers located the suspect vehicle parked at a motel in Winkler. The driver of the vehicle is known to police as being a suspended driver. When the vehicle left the motel police attempted to conduct a traffic stop however the vehicle fled from police. Police followed the vehicle on gravel roads as the driver continued attempts to evade police. At Provincial Road #306 near Plum Coulee the decision was made to terminate the pursuit for safety reasons and because police had identified the occupants. An arrest warrant will be sought for a 25 year old female resident of Altona.

November 10

At 11:45 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle being operated on Royal Crescent. The driver was issued tickets for driving an unregistered vehicle and driving while disqualified. The driver also received a verbal warning for providing false information as he initially provided police with a different name.
