Police Report

March 16 – March 22

The following are some of the files that were opened with the Winkler Police Service during this time period.

March 17 – A female reported that she received a message via Facebook demanding she send the scammer money or her photos would be exploited. The female initially sent the funds, but later cancelled the e-transfer and was not out any money. Police advised her to contact her financial institution and credit card company.

Police received a report of an on-going dispute between two individuals, and as a result the complainant’s vehicle was vandalized. This file is still under investigation.

A male reported that he was being repeatedly contacted by a female who was under conditions not to contact him. Police later located the female, arrested her for Failing to Comply with a Release Order, and transported her to the Winkler Police Service. During the arrest process, the intoxicated female was belligerent and combative with police. She was subsequently charged with Assaulting a Peace Officer, and remanded into custody to appear in Winnipeg Provincial Court on March 19th, 2020.

Police were dispatched to the complaint of multiple individuals fighting at a residence. Police spoke with all parties who advised that no fighting or assault took place.

March 18 – A resident of Pembina Avenue reported that a male stole her bicycle from her front yard. The complainant followed the suspect on foot, during which time he abandoned the bicycle and fled. The complainant retrieved the bicycle, and police patrolled the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

March 22 – At approximately 3:00 a.m., police were dispatched to a local hotel regarding a female who was requesting assistance. Police spoke with the female who advised that she was assaulted by a male known to her, who had since departed the scene on foot. The male was located at another location and arrested for Assault, Choking to Overcome Resistance, Mischief Under $5000, and on the strength of another agency’s warrant. The male was heavily intoxicated and uncooperative with police during the arrest process. He was transported to the Winkler Police Service and remanded into custody to appear in Winnipeg Provincial Court on March 23rd, 2020.
