January 15 – Staff of a local store reported that a male, who is known to police, left without paying for merchandise. Store staff requested he be served a banishment notice, to which officers later located the male and served said notice.
A male reported that he attempted to purchase tires through Facebook Marketplace and e-transferred funds for the purchase. When he attended the seller’s address, the homeowner advised him that he was not selling tires and the complainant realized the ad was a scam.
January 17 – Police received a report of a female who fled her residence after being assaulted by her boyfriend. The male was located, arrested for Assault and Choking to Overcome and released on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court.
Staff of a local hotel requested assistance in removing two intoxicated individuals who were causing a disturbance. Police located the two females and arrested them under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act. Police learned one of the females, who was uncooperative and belligerent during her arrest, was under conditions not to consume alcohol. She was subsequently charged with Failing to Comply with an Undertaking and Resisting Arrest and was later released on an Undertaking. The second female was arrested on the strength of a warrant and released once sober on an Appearance Notice.
January 18 – A male was arrested for Theft Under $5000 and served a banishment notice to a local store relating to a previous theft file in which he was a suspect. He was released on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court.
Police received a report regarding a 16-year-old female who was selling marihuana vape cartridges to other minors. She was issued a ticket for Supplying cannabis to a young person, which carries a $2,542 fine.
January 21 – A female reported that while stopped at a red light in her vehicle, the driver of the vehicle next to her exposed himself to her. This investigation is ongoing.
January 22 – Staff of a local store reported that on January 20th a male and female left the store without paying for numerous items. This file is still under investigation.
January 24 – Police received a report of a utility trailer that was stolen from a business on Foxfire Trail on January 23rd. Police were notified that the stolen trailer was seen listed in an ad on Facebook Marketplace in another community, at which time police in that jurisdiction attended and confirmed it was the same trailer. The trailer was towed from the scene and the complainant was notified.
January 25 – Police observed a male, who was known to only have a driver’s licence in the learner stage, operating a vehicle alone. A traffic stop was conducted, at which time police also learned the vehicle was unregistered. The male was issued tickets for As a driver in the learner stage, operating a vehicle without a supervising driver ($203) and Driving an unregistered vehicle ($298). His vehicle was also towed from the scene.
Staff of a local store reported a theft that took place involving a female who left the store without paying for merchandise. She was later identified and served a banishment notice at the request of store staff.
January 26 – Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with a broken rear light and while speaking with the driver noted her to be exhibiting signs of impairment. She complied to a demand for a breath sample which resulted in two “Warn” readings. She was issued an Immediate Roadside Prohibition, which carried a 72-hour driver’s licence suspension, $400 fine and three-day vehicle impoundment.
Police were dispatched to a residence regarding a male who was inside and on conditions not to be there. He was arrested for Breaching an Undertaking (x3) and later released on a Release Order with a court date at Morden Provincial Court.
January 28 – A male reported that he was assaulted on January 26th by a male known to him (the same male in the above complaint). The male suspect was additionally charged with Assault, Uttering Threats and Breaching an Undertaking, and his existing Release Order was updated with the additional charges.
A female reported that she fell victim to an employment scam after receiving a WhatsApp message proposing a job opportunity. She provided a large amount of money over several transactions to complete the job training and was contacted by her bank regarding the suspicious account activity. The funds were deposited by the scammer into a cryptocurrency exchange and were not traceable. She was advised to contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
Police received a report of a scam involving a female who received a phone call from someone who she thought was her cellphone provider regarding upgrading her cellphone plan. She realized she was scammed after sending a large amount of money via bitcoin, along with providing the last three digits of her Social Insurance Number. She was advised to contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
Staff of a local store had a suspected shoplifter in custody and requested police to attend. An adult caution was issued to the female, and she was released.
January 30 – A teenaged male reported that he was being ‘sextorted’ after sending an intimate video to a female he met online who threatened to send the video to his friends and family if he didn’t send her money. The male sent an amount of money to the scammer, who then requested more. The male’s father will assist in shutting down his social media accounts and contacting his bank.
A female reported historical assaults that took place involving her ex-boyfriend. He was subsequently arrested and charged with Assault, Uttering Threats and Forcible Confinement and released on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court.
January 31 – City of Winkler staff reported vandalism to the pavilion at Bethel Park which consisted of graffiti. This investigation is ongoing.
Vandalism was located inside a business’s vestibule which consisted of graffiti. This file is still under investigation.
February 1 – At approximately 2:51 a.m., police were dispatched to a residence after receiving a report of a male being assaulted with a weapon. The male suspect was located, arrested for Aggravated Assault and later released on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court.
