August 28 – While on patrol, police were travelling northbound on Highway 32 when two dirt bikes were observed travelling northbound at a high rate of speed in the west ditch. As the riders approached the intersection at Southview Drive, they accelerated and ramped the intersection and proceeded travelling northbound in the ditch. Police attempted a traffic stop, at which point one driver stopped while the other fled. The driver who fled (a 14-year-old male) later received tickets for: Operating an unregistered off-road vehicle ($174) and Operating an off-road vehicle carelessly ($672).
August 30 – A resident of Gemstone Drive reported damage to his vehicle consisting of scratches on the door and along the body of the vehicle.
A complaint was received regarding a young boy threatening another boy at a public park. Police attended and spoke with one of the boys who stated that the other boy indicated he wanted to fight him, at which time the first boy brandished a pocketknife with the blade out and made a threatening gesture. Police seized the knife, spoke with him and his mother about his actions and the possible consequences, and issued him a verbal warning.
September 2 – Police received a report from a female youth who stated she was sexually assaulted two weeks prior by a male known to her. The male was subsequently arrested for Sexual Interference and later released on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court.
September 3 – A female reported that her son’s e-bike was stolen from outside a convenience store several days earlier after being parked there for a short period of time.
Police were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of 1st Street and Stanley Avenue involving a truck and electric scooter. Multiple witnesses reported that the teenaged male pressed the crosswalk button and immediately entered the pedestrian corridor on his electric scooter, providing little time for motorists to react. The driver of the truck did not have time to stop, resulting in minor injuries to the victim, who was transported to the hospital. The driver of the truck was issued tickets for Driving with an expired licence ($298) and Driving an unregistered vehicle ($298).
September 5 – While on patrol, police observed a female who was known not to have a driver’s licence operating a vehicle with expired registration. A traffic stop was conducted, police confirmed the female was prohibited from driving Canada wide and she was subsequently arrested for Operating a Vehicle While Prohibited. She was later released on an Appearance Notice along with an additional Appearance Notice for the following charges: Driving an unregistered vehicle, Driving while disqualified, and Driving a motor vehicle that is not equipped with an approved ignition-interlock program. She was issued an Order of Prohibition prohibiting her from operating a motor vehicle in Canada for one year and her vehicle was impounded for 90 days.
September 6 – A complaint was received regarding a suspicious individual sitting inside a vehicle in a parking lot. Upon police arrival, the suspect exited the vehicle and began walking away from police and behaving irrationally. The female continued evading police and she was arrested for Mischief, at which point she assaulted the police officer. She was additionally charged with Resisting Arrest and Assaulting a Police Office, and later released on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court.
Staff of a local church reported they received an email from what appeared to be an employee’s email address requesting an account change and for their pay cheque to be sent to a new account. The employee later advised that they never received their pay cheque and confirmed they never requested the account change. This investigation is ongoing.
A complaint of theft was received from staff of a local store regarding a male who left the store without paying for merchandise. This file is still under investigation.
September 11 – A resident of 6th Street reported that his wallet was stolen from his unlocked vehicle sometime during the night.
September 12 – A female youth disclosed two historical sexual assaults by a male known to her. The male was arrested for Sexual Assault (x2) and released on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court.
September 14 – Police were dispatched to a residence regarding a male who was causing a disturbance. The male was located near the residence and arrested for being intoxicated in public, during which time he resisted and assaulted police. He was charged with Resisting Arrest, Assaulting a Police Officer and Failing to Comply with an Undertaking. He was released once sober on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court.
