February 3 – February 16

February 3 – A male reported that he participated in a video call from an unknown female, which was intimate in nature, and later received phone calls demanding money or the video would be sent to his friends and family. He proceeded to make two transactions, but the scammers kept requesting more money. Police advised the male to block the scammers and refrain from sending any more money.

February 4 – Police were dispatched to a residence to conduct a well-being check on a female who was possibly in distress. Police located the female along with a male who was under conditions not to have contact with her. He was subsequently arrested for Failing to Comply with an Undertaking and remanded into custody to appear in Winnipeg Provincial Court. The female was also arrested under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act and for Failing to Comply with an Undertaking, as she was under conditions to abstain from the consumption of alcohol. She was released once sober on an Appearance Notice.

Staff of a local store reported that a female left the store without paying for a large amount of merchandise. On February 5th, police received a report from another local store regarding a female involved in a shoplifting incident which occurred the previous day. Police believe the same female to be involved in both thefts, and these files are still under investigation.

February 6 – Police are investigating the theft of a vehicle from a business on Adora Avenue, two residential break and enters on Red Hawk Trail, and a theft from a vehicle parked at a business on Navigator Road, all of which appear to be related. Numerous items were stolen as a result, including banking cards which were later used locally and in other communities. The stolen vehicle was recovered in Winnipeg on February 10th and the owner was notified. One suspect has been identified and a warrant is being sought for his arrest. These files are still under investigation.

February 9 –A complaint was received regarding a female who was located sleeping in a residence and did not have permission to be there. The female, who was found to be intoxicated, was arrested for Mischief and Failing to Comply with an Undertaking as she was under conditions not to consume alcohol. She was released on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court.

February 10 – Police were dispatched to a local tow company regarding a highly agitated male who was attempting to leave in his vehicle without paying his tow bill. The male was belligerent and uncooperative with police and subsequently arrested for Mischief – Obstruct Enjoyment of Property and Resisting Arrest. He was also issued a ticket for Trespassing ($672) and later released on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court.

February 12 – Staff of a local store reported that an item of merchandise was stolen sometime between February 8th – 10th.

Police received a report regarding a male who was scammed out of a large sum of money after clicking a Facebook link to invest in the stock market using AI (artificial intelligence). After clicking the link, he received multiple phone calls and emails regarding setting up a profile and forwarding money to the scammers. After sending the money, the scammers claimed they never received it. The male was advised to contact his bank, the CRA and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

February 13 – The owner of a local store reported that a male left the store without paying for merchandise. This file is still under investigation.

Staff of a local store reported that a male left the store with items of merchandise concealed on his person. Police were provided with a description of the male and located him several minutes later, at which time it was determined he was also involved in a second theft from another store. He was arrested for Theft Under $5000 (x2) and released on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court.

February 14 – A report was received regarding a suspicious male who was checking for unlocked vehicles at a business on Roblin Boulevard. After locating an unlocked vehicle, he entered and stole multiple items including personal identification cards and banking cards, which were later used for purchases at multiple local stores. The licence plate on the suspect’s vehicle was learned to be stolen from a vehicle in Winnipeg the previous day.

February 15 – Police received a complaint from a male who advised that while walking his dog he was approached by an unknown female who requested help in finding her two lost dogs. The dogs were located, at which time they attacked the male and his dog, causing the male a minor injury. The City of Winkler by-law officer is investigating the incident and lack of licensing.

At approximately 11:25 p.m., police were dispatched to a local restaurant regarding a disorderly female who was yelling and throwing items. The female was located, found to be intoxicated and subsequently arrested under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act. She was released once sober with a ticket for Disorderly conduct in or around a licensed premises ($672).

February 16 – A complaint was received from a female who advised that her intoxicated brother was breaking things in her apartment. Police arrested the male for Mischief Under $5000 and released him once sober on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court.

The property representative of a local public facility reported that a fire was started in a garbage bin in one of the facility’s washrooms. This file is still under investigation.
