February 18 – A female reported that she received an email from what appeared to be an anti-virus company which contained an invoice for a large amount of money. She called the phone number listed on the invoice to make a payment and provided basic personal information but no banking information. She contacted her banking institution as well as Service Canada and will also be contacting the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre to report the attempted fraud.
February 19 – The manager of a local store reported an attempted theft involving a male who was caught trying to conceal store merchandise on his person and subsequently fled the store. Upon viewing the video footage, police recognized the suspect from pervious interactions and attended his residence where he was arrested for Theft Under $5000. He was later released on an Undertaking with a court appearance at Morden Provincial Court.
February 21 – Police received a report, historical in nature, regarding a male who sexually assaulted two youths known to him. This file is still under investigation.
February 22 – A resident of Pineridge Place reported a suspected scam on VarageSale as he had several people attend his residence to pick up items purchased on the platform, but he did not have any items for sale. A female later confirmed she had placed a deposit on the items listed for sale by the female seller, who later changed her name and then blocked her. Police checked VarageSale and the items had since been removed.
February 23 – A female reported that she was assaulted by her ex-boyfriend at his residence. Police attended and confirmed the intoxicated male was under conditions not to have contact with the female and to abstain from the consumption of alcohol. He was placed under arrest, during which time he resisted and assaulted an officer. He was charged with Assault, Failing to Comply with a Release Order (x3), Resisting Arrest and Assaulting a Police Officer with a Weapon and was remanded into custody to appear in Winnipeg Provincial Court.
February 25 – At approximately 12:37 p.m., police were dispatched to the intersection of 4th Street and Pembina Avenue to assist paramedics with an unresponsive male in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. Upon arrival, police observed the vehicle to be running with the gear selector in drive and the driver’s foot on the brake pedal. The male was removed from the vehicle and medically cleared by paramedics, at which time he became alert and uncooperative. Police noted an odour of liquor emanating from the vehicle and observed a bottle of liquor in the centre console. The male was arrested for impaired driving, during which time he was behaving erratically, and transported to the Winkler Police Service where he assaulted an officer and refused to provide a breath sample. He was charged with Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired, Assault on a Police Officer and Failure or Refusal to Comply with a Demand for a Breath Sample and later released on an Undertaking with a court date at Morden Provincial Court. He was also issued an Appearance Notice for As a driver, carrying liquor in a vehicle, along with a three-month driver’s licence suspension and a 60-day vehicle impoundment.
February 28 – Police received a report of two suspicious males attempting to open vehicle doors at a business on Roblin Boulevard East. This investigation is ongoing.
March 2 – Police were dispatched to a residence regarding an altercation involving several intoxicated individuals. Upon arrival, police learned that a male and female had assaulted each other, during which time a second female assaulted the male, all of whom are known to each other. The three individuals were each arrested for Assault, and the male was also charged with Failing to Comply with an Undertaking as he was under conditions to abstain from the consumption of alcohol. All parties were later released on Undertakings with court dates at the Morden Provincial Court.
March 3 – A female reported a sexual assault that occurred two days earlier by a male known to her. This file is still under investigation.
March 4 – A complaint was received from a male who attempted to purchase Winnipeg Jets tickets through Facebook Marketplace and after paying a deposit never received the tickets. This investigation is ongoing.
March 6 – A female reported that she received a phone call from someone claiming to be from her cellphone provider offering her a renewal discount on a new phone. When she received the new phone, she realized it was not the model she was promised and was advised to return the phone, and she would be reimbursed for the shipping cost. She contacted her cellphone provider directly after not receiving reimbursement, at which time they advised her they do not solicit new phones to existing customers in this manner and the phone she received was blacklisted and unusable. The phone company initiated a fraud investigation, and the female is out the money she spent to return the phone.
March 7 – While travelling on 6th Street South police observed an unconscious male lying in the roadway. Police woke the male, who was found to be extremely intoxicated, and after being medically cleared by paramedics he was arrested under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act and released once sober.
March 9 – A complaint was received from a female regarding her boyfriend who was currently breaking things in her residence and had assaulted her twice over the past two days. Police attended, arrested the male for Assault (x2) and later remanded him into custody to appear in Winnipeg Provincial Court.
