Police Report

August 17 – August 23

The following are some of the files that were opened with the Winkler Police Service during this time period.

August 17
Police responded to a vehicle fire on Greensfield Drive. Winkler Fire Department also attended and extinguished the fire. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

A speeding ticket with a $378 fine was issued to a driver on Highway #14 for 85 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.

August 18
While on patrol, officers noticed a person riding an off-road motorcycle on Pembina Avenue near 15th Street. Police initiated a traffic stop and issued 2 tickets totaling $287 under the Off Road Vehicles Act.

August 19
A call was received regarding a naked male walking around farm machinery near Industrial Drive. Police responded to the location and 2 males were arrested under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act. Both males were issued tickets for trespassing on private property while one of the males was also issued a ticket for having liquor in a public place.

August 20
Police responded to a report of an intoxicated male that was laying on the ground outside of a hotel. The male was arrested under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act and held in custody until sober.

August 22
At about 3:00 a.m. police assisted the Altona Police Service in locating a male, that they had received a report of, walking on the highway near Plum Coulee, had almost been struck by a vehicle and was covered in blood. The male was located just west of Plum Coulee and was very intoxicated. He told officers that he had been at a party at a rural address and got into a fight with an unknown assailant. The male was transported to the hospital to have his injuries looked at. It was determined that there was an outstanding arrest warrant for the male related to an assault on a female in August of 2019. The male was arrested on the strength of that warrant and released on an Undertaking to attend court at a later date.

August 23
Officers responded to a residence where it was reported that two males were fighting in the front yard. Both males advised police that it was just a verbal altercation. No further action was required.
