Criminal Record Checks

Instructions

  • Attend our office in person during the hours of 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Monday through Friday
  • Reside in the City of Winkler
  • Make payment by cash only. Debit cards, credit cards and cheques are not accepted.
  • Present two (2) pieces of valid government issued identification verifying your name, date of birth, and address. One piece of identification must also contain a photo.
  • Acceptable forms of identification are:
  • Driver’s Licence
  • Passport
  • Manitoba Health Card
  • Birth Certificate
  • Permanent Residency Card
  • Social Insurance Number
  • Firearms Licence
  • If two (2) valid pieces of identification cannot be provided, the applicant may fill out a Declaration of Guarantor form.

For residents who reside outside City of Winkler limits, you must attend your local police agency in order to obtain a criminal record check.

Please be advised that criminal record checks are processed in the order they are received, and will not be completed the same day. Please allow sufficient time for processing. When submitting your criminal record check application, you will be advised by our office staff when your completed Criminal Record Check will be ready for pick up. Please note that the Winkler Police Service will only hold a completed criminal record check for 30 days from the date the application is processed.

A vulnerable sector check requires the submission of fingerprints whenever the gender and date of birth of an applicant match an existing pardoned sex offender record. These fingerprints are required for elimination purposes before a completed vulnerable sector criminal record check certificate can be issued.

Child and Adult Abuse Registry Checks

Instructions

The Winkler Police Service does not conduct Child or Adult Abuse Registry checks. If your employer requires you to obtain a Child or Adult Abuse Registry check, they should provide you with the appropriate forms to complete. The completed forms should then be mailed to the corresponding address below:

If you did not receive the forms from your employer, contact the Child Protection Branch at (204) 945-6967 or toll-free at 1-800-282-8069. They can also be downloaded from our website, or be completed and submitted online at:

In order for your Adult Abuse or Child Abuse Registry Check application to be accepted it must be accompanied by a photocopy of two (2) valid pieces of government-issued identification. Your photocopied identification and Part 1 of your application must be verified and signed by a witness.

A witness can be anyone over the age of 18 who is NOT a member of your family by blood, marriage, common-law relationship, adoption or guardianship.

The witness must examine and ensure that the original identification matches the photocopy, sign and date the photocopy page and provide his or her contact information including name, phone number and relationship to the applicant.
